Our sweet baby James will be three weeks old tomorrow. I don't know what we did to deserve it, but somehow we got a really good baby. He sleeps great at night already, he generally only cries for the obvious reasons, he can sleep almost anywhere through all sorts of noises, etc. I really have no complaints. In fact, I'm kind of paranoid that any day now he is going to pull a 360 on us and transform from a sweet little baby into a colicky one, but that is another story . . . One fun thing we've discovered about little James is that he loves music, especially Christmas music. A particular favorite is "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer." If he even gets a tiny bit fussy all I have to do is start singing and he will almost immediately calm down (good thing he doesn't know yet how horrible my voice is). The only problem is that I seem to have forgotten the words to most children's songs. I can't get through the intro to "Rudolph" without naming Comet at least 2-3 times; "Rock-a-bye Baby" (you know, "in the tree top") has completely taken on a life of its own. I sat and tried to figure it out with Brian for about 5 minutes yesterday and neither of us could come up with the right words (I'll google the lyrics later). I even tried to sing a couple songs my grandmother used to sing to us when we were little and all they did was made me teary eyed missing my grandma (the squirrel and pigeon song for any cousins reading this). Until I reacquaint myself with songs from my childhood, do you think he'll mind if we sing him Black Eyed Peas instead? "I gotta feeling" that tonight's gonna be a good night?

Three Weeks

That's an old picture! Post a new one! (you thought I wouldn't notice, didn't you) :) Also, happy third week birthday little guy! I'm glad he likes my rendition of Christmas Island by Jimmy Buffet.
ReplyDeleteHey guys- just found your blog! Glad to hear things are going well so far-maybe James can teach Siena a thing or two about sleeping?
ReplyDeleteAs far as the singing goes--if he is a James Taylor fan you can try Sweet Baby James? Or the "hokey pokey" is Nick's specialty.
You are funny! You will be a pro at all those songs soon! But no one says you have to sing the classics. My niece would only calm down to James Taylor's, "Mexico" and Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car"
ReplyDeleteHe's so cute! Carter loved it when I would sing to him, I guess he still does actually. One time when my parents came up to visit, we were stuck in terrible traffic and Carter was getting quite fussy. I think he was almost 2. So I started singing any song I could think of and he calmed right now. My dad turned to me and said "Can you please stop? I can't believe your singing doesn't make him cry, you are so off key...." Must run in the family - not being good singers!!
ReplyDeleteSoooooo cute. Love his little beanie.
ReplyDeleteWell, I am glad you have such an angel of a little guy! I don't think you have anything to worry about because he is obviously just his personality. If he was going to have colick he'd have it by now. When Michael was 3 weeks old I felt like I was going to die he cried and screamed so much!
What you wrote about forgetting songs made me laugh becuase today I was rhyming "Wibbily Wobbily sat on a wall, Wibbily Wobbily had a great fall..." I knew something was off but couldn't figure it out till Rob came in to correct me.
Michael like Jimmy Buffett and the Muppets.
ReplyDeleteCute little lad you have there! I was trying to remember the words to Hush little baby don't say a word....mama's going to buy a mocking bird... I didn't get too far into the song before I realized that I don't really know the words! Poor Clara Jo :)
ReplyDeleteHe is so adorable!
ReplyDelete1. I can't believe he is 10 lbs. I think that is more than Coleman.
ReplyDelete2. I am sorry the car seat is awful-it is one of those things that is the biggest pain and yet no thinks to share-esp since it is ever so present (like 20 times a day-present).
3. He is so cute! I can't tell who he looks like. How about when you compare baby pics of you guys?
4. Can't wait for May to meet this little guy (who will not be so little anymore).
5. And last but not least-I really can't wait for Jan 20something to find out where you all are headed. I am praying for a miracle here that Brian is destined to be a Tenn. Vol but I know how (un)happy that would make you. I think it would be so fun. OUr neighbors are moving in April-maybe you could buy their house!!!
