"Honk!" to noses. An older couple in our ward took a liking to James when we first moved here. To make him laugh at church, whenever he would touch their noses they would blurt out "Honk!" Ever since, James says that when he touches our noses.

Pet Peeves, Con't
1. Taking the time to email someone and then getting absolutely no response--especially if you asked specific questions you needed answers to. This is irritating to me for so many reasons. First of all, hitting "reply" and typing out a simple response takes all of 10 seconds, if that, and almost zero amount of energy. Something as simple as "Got your email. Thanks" or "Thanks for the email. We'll talk later!" I mean seriously, it's not hard, people!
*(Emailing is second nature to me. I realize not everyone is as into it as I am, but still...)
2. People who don't put the toilet seat cover down after using the toilet. There is a cover for a reason and there is no excuse for not putting it down after you are done.
3. Bad customer service. I was in Walgreens the other day and was looking for a specific product. I found one of what I needed but was hoping to get at least two more. I found a salesgirl and said "Excuse me, do you have any more of these?" and held up the item in question.
She took one look at it and scowled "No" and went right back to what she was doing.
Since her response was abnormally brief and somewhat rude I stood there for a second waiting for her to continue. Because usually the polite/normal response would have been something like "No, that's all we've got. I'm sorry. We should get in more next week" or at the very least, "No, we don't. Sorry!" When I realized she had nothing more to add, I walked away laughing.
The ironic thing was that as I was checking out I realized she was the manager of the store. Seriously? How does someone with that kind of social/customer service skills get a managerial position?
Oddly enough, I've realized that most women bosses I've had over the last few years have very questionable managerial skills. I won't elaborate further on what my conclusions are to that observation.
4. I'm no fashion queen, but wearing tennis shoes with dresses or dress pants is just wrong. And I'm not talking about a cute pair of keds with a casual dress. I'm talking all out running shoes with a church dress or a suit. I'm not sure how anyone could ever think this is okay and yet I've seen it countless times since living in Tennessee.
5. Bloggers who don't punctuate correctly or at all. especially when they don't capitalize proper nouns or the first letter in each sentence. is hitting the shift key that hard? that kind of punctuation wouldn't pass in school so why do they think it's acceptable in the blog world? honestly, it's so irritating to me that i cringe when i see it.
Any one out there have any more they'd like to add?

Oklahoma!
Aside from spending quality time with Amy and surprising my parents (who decided to visit Amy that weekend as well), the highlight of the trip for me was definitely visiting the Oklahoma City Memorial.
Talk about a humbling, reverent experience. I was only 14 years old when the bombing happened and I remember being completely confused about what was going on and why it happened at all. I couldn't fathom why anyone, and American citizens no less, would do something so horrible to our country. Sixteen years later and it still makes no sense.
Upon entering the memorial, I was completely overcome by it all and had to hold back tears, especially when I looked down at my own precious little boy and remembered the images in the news from 16 years ago of a firefighter carrying the body of a little child from the burning building.
Oh, and James was proud of them all, too! Here he is sporting his grandma's winning medal:
All in all, it was a great trip. Even though James was less than angelic on the flight home, it was worth it just to spend those few precious days with my family.

Best Buds, Broken Toes, and More Bargains
On Easter, Brian caught James trying to eat his entire basket full of chocolate eggs. Brian chased him around the house trying to get the eggs back and he cried and cried when Brian finally caught him and took it away.
Nothing digging in the dirt can't fix!
A couple weeks ago I was my typical clumsy self and broke my toe. It swelled up a ton and was purple and blue for days. Unfortunately, keeping a pinky toe protected is hard to do. It's too swollen to fit into a shoe and James (and other family members!) steps on it almost daily, causing it to reswell every time. Fun times!
Total change of subject . . . it has been hard for me to stick to a grocery budget. I like saving money, but I also love good food and I hate restrictions! But I've made myself do it and am finally starting to see big results. Last week I had my best grocery shopping trip ever. A lady in line behind me even applauded. I was kind of embarrassed but I saved a ton of money and got a ton of groceries. I spent $26 on nearly $140 worth of groceries, for a savings of over 80%. It included 16 cans of vegetables, 12 boxes of pasta, 4 cans of pasta sauce, 8 cans of soup, 8 bags of potato chips, 2 packs of razers, 2 packs of sponges, 4 boxes of granola bars, 4 tubs of butter, 2 packs of seasonings, 2 bags of rice, 2 bottles of salad dressing, a Glade candle, a pack of toilet paper (not shown) and a toothbrush.
Southern Storms
All I can promise you is this: My laptop and camera are both dying slow deaths. Since we can't afford new ones, after they have passed on, it'll be at least three more years before you hear from me again.
Oh, and to all my maybe five loyal readers out there, I promise this won't be another kid post.
So, a storm rolled through the South a couple of weeks ago. A really ugly, loud and vicious storm. Our house wasn't spared. See these beautiful flowers? Well, they don't exist any more.
All thanks to these decimating chunks of ice. Marble size, golf ball size, and even tennis ball size. I never knew hail like this was possible.
