Norfolk

After our visit to Norfolk this weekend one main thought crossed my mind: why have we not gone to Norfolk before!?! I was mad at myself for just now discovering how awesome this city is with only a month or so left here (oh, I'll be back of course, you can trust me on that one!). It was just my kind of city, complete with a Nautical museum, a decommissioned battle ship (the U.S.S. Wisconsin), a waterfront, and of course, experiencing the Spirit of Norfolk with some great friends . . .(It was a little windy and chilly that day so we had to leave James below the deck for most of the ride.)

(Us, the Bennetts, Nielsons, Westovers, and Sanfords)

Eat some cake!

My incredibly talented and beautiful cousin Jill was kind enough to make mine and Brian's wedding cake a few years ago. In all honesty, it was one of the best professionally made cakes I have ever had and I was really sad when I found out the entire thing was served to our guests and we didn't have a piece to save for our anniversary (I know what you're thinking--everyone tells me how gross the cake is after a year in the freezer, but I still wanted to try it!). Because I may have a thing for chocolate, I had her make a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse filling. Because Brian may have a thing for raspberries, she decorated it beautifully with the big red berries (see the picture above). I tell you this because in the last three years, Jill has only become better at this cake making/decorating thing and has even started her own business. If I were in Utah I would probably buy a cake from her weekly, because I love cake and I also love Jill. So, all you people out there in the Beehive State, check out Jill's cake blog. You could even win a free cake!

Good things in the middle

The box doesn't lie. There are, indeed, good things in the middle of this delicious cereal. Oh's used to be my #1 requested cereal when I was a little girl (aside from that ice cream cone cereal--oh boy, does anyone out there remember those?). Not very many stores sell them anymore but when I find one that does, I stock up. I probably hadn't had this cereal in over a year. Until this morning, that is. They tasted so good I poured myself another bowl after I had finished my first. And then another. And then maybe another. I couldn't help myself. I had forgotten how good they are! Seriously, if you haven't tried these, go get yourself a box!

April updates

This is a little late in coming, but this was my 5th, and most likely last, year volunteering for the White House Easter Egg Roll. This year I convinced a friend to do it with me. She was a good sport and probably had more fun than I did. Not that I didn't have fun. I did. But I was tired. So very tired. (I think I only had 3-4 hours of sleep the night before thanks to a certain little boy). Tired, hungry and hot. And those three things do not a happy Brittany make and I may have slacked off a bit in my responsibilities and instead decided to join Lindsay in her's. I'm glad I did because I got to see/do a bunch of cool things I wouldn't have otherwise, including hanging out with Sasha and Malia, being within touching distance of Mrs. Obama who thanked us as she walked by, and also brushing shoulders with Reese Witherspoon (who looked just like she does on TV only smaller, much much smaller). Oh, and we can't forget Justin Bieber. Beiber? I had no idea who he was until that day. I had to endure three of his concerts and now I find his songs running through my head every so often at random times of the day. Anyway . . . Here Lindsay and I are. We weren't supposed to take pictures since we were volunteering, but I figured if I got kicked out it was okay since I probably wasn't going to be coming back anyway.
In other April news, our house is officially up for sale. I'm getting nervous. Very, very nervous. It is not a good time to sell. It is, however, an awesome time to buy, so why more students moving here aren't buying is beyond me. When someone does finally decide to buy our home, they will make a killing off of us. If anyone is moving to Richmond, knows of anyone moving to Richmond, or already lives in Richmond and hates where they live (or just wants to make a good investment), isn't this townhouse just adorable? Come on, it could be yours!

What's also adorable is this little guy right here . . . his smiles get me every time! He is almost five months old. Where has the time gone? What happened to my little baby? He seems more toddler-like these days than an infant.

Here's his more serious, yet still happy, look. There are definitely days when he looks just like his dad and other days where he looks more like my family. He's finally growing some hair back, now if we could just get him a little sun (his "tan" disappeared around two months old. I now no longer get asked if his father is Mediterranean) . . .

Amy and John

Congrats to my beautiful sister Amy on her engagement to John. I can't wait until July 10th. She's getting married after spending two years working in D.C., which is the summer after John's first year of dental school and on the second Saturday in July. AND they got engaged at the Lincoln Memorial. Sound familiar? I guess I'm a pretty cool sister afterall. Amy, feel free to move to Richmond if you want, too. We have a house for sale you can live in. It's your's!

April?

Umm, hello, how is it already April!?! That means NEXT month Brian graduates and NEXT month we have to move. That means THIS month we have to start packing (and hopefully be able to sell or rent our house)! What the what!?! (name that tv show)

Brian has already had his last ever intramural basketball game, finished the last part of his dental boards and has already, I am pretty sure, mentally checked out.

(Thanks, Lindsay for letting me "borrow" this from your blog:)

And finally, just for kicks, a picture of little Jamers at 4 months. He's not so sure about this bumbo business ...
